my own personal cheer squad

Artists are incredibly strong people. Artists are incredibly fragile people.

The knife cuts both ways. We are at one moment ready to face the world and anything it might throw at us, and in the next shuddering under the burden of misery and self doubt in the face of what seems overwhelming opposition. It is a strange paradox.

However, the past couple days have reminded me of one of our greatest weapons against despair. That weapon is made up the people around us. Not all of them, for some are bitter enemies, but a chosen few who remind us that they believe in us. Those precious few who form a personal cheer squad. They remind us that we are special. They remind us that we are talented. They remind us that we have something to share. They remind us that we are loved. They remind us of all the things that the world at large tries so hard to deny us.

So, today, I send out a heartfelt thank you to my own personal cheer squad without whom I would fall. So thank you Anne, for your bright muse and incredible encouragement that makes me feel like my writing is worth the time and effort and may one day be a joy to others. Thank you to Hilaire for sharing your expertise as a fellow writer. Thank you to Josie, Marisa and other precious friends who see value in my dreams for ministry through dance. Thank you to my friend Stephen who is a constant ray of light and a testament to the ethic of hard work. A man who I never seem to know what to say to his compliments. I’m learning to stick to “thank you.” Thanks also to the Gambers who are dear friends and who’s company, advice, experience and generosity I greatly value and benefit from. I must also thank my dad, my mom and my sister who have believed more in me that I have ever believed in myself. Thank you for your support even when you had no idea what I was doing. Most importantly, thank you God for giving so graciously to me Yourself and these others who reflect Your love. From the bottom of my heart, thank you!

Who has encouraged you lately in your creative and artistic pursuits? Have you thanked them for it? Please take a little time today to do so!

About Kirk

I enjoy life and have been blessed with many different experiences. An eye for the underlying truths that surround me accompanies a growing faith in Christ and God that informs my world and reveals small miracles and beauty surrounding me every day. This is the major reason I felt led to start Dance of 2 Companies - a dance studio where I can share all the little amazing things God's taught me through life as a dancer - about myself, about others, about marriage... and most importantly, about Him.
