living: openness

Likely everyone here is familiar with the statement “Life is what happens while you’re making other plans”. There is a huge world beyond self that exists around us at all times. Will you be open and receptive to that world?

I am a story teller. Everything in story is a reflection of life. My job as a story teller is to somehow capture the essence of truth that exists in life and communicate it through the lives of my characters. There is a reason that authors delve into the great questions of man. What makes a man? Why is their evil? What is the source of conflict? of peace? As creatives, we are witnessing these things on a daily basis. Life happens all around us if we will simply take time to observe! I use the word openness because observation must be willing to see all. This includes the harsh realities that make us uncomfortable. I know there are times I struggle to watch a portion of a movie because seeing the mistakes the characters are making bothers me, but it is a truth and often one step on the path to redemption. I cannot skip out on it or I would miss the greater beauty.

John Constable said it this way. “There is nothing ugly; I never saw an ugly thing in my life: for let the form of an object be what it may-light, shade, and perspective will always make it beautiful.”

Are you open to life in all it’s facets? I challenge you to be an observer of life. This means war and injustice as readily as it means the beauty of a flower or the gift of water to a thirsty soul. It as just as much a bitter fight as it is a passionate kiss. Observe and learn. Observe and be taught. This is one way to fill the well with wisdom and understanding.

Where are you closing yourself off? What things in life would you rather not observe?

About Kirk

I enjoy life and have been blessed with many different experiences. An eye for the underlying truths that surround me accompanies a growing faith in Christ and God that informs my world and reveals small miracles and beauty surrounding me every day. This is the major reason I felt led to start Dance of 2 Companies - a dance studio where I can share all the little amazing things God's taught me through life as a dancer - about myself, about others, about marriage... and most importantly, about Him.
