daily play – you spin me

Welcome to today! You’re flight has arrived and after disembarking you make your way through the airport until your face to face with a steely eyed officer, lips set in a firm line, who will want to see your passport, know where you’ll be staying, and whether this trip to Today is for business or pleasure. And just when you think you’re about to get through he motions for another officer who nods and slips into a small room. A bead of sweat begins making its way down your face as you wait for his return. After all, you’ve been here many times. Why is this visit any different? You wait for what seems like hours. Finally, he reemerges, a rolled up mass of shaggy green on his shoulder. He walks over and casually drops it to the floor before pushing it open with his foot. You stare dumbly at a 6×6 foot square of grass. The whole thing feels like a strange dream. It’s absurd! The entry officer says something. You don’t quite hear it, but it causes you to look at him. He says it again.

“Spin.” What? Spin? Your eyebrows have likely left your head the way they’ve climbed up your forehead. He repeats it.

“Spin.”

You step slowly onto the grass. “How long?”

“As long as it takes.”

“For what?” You’d storm off, but he doesn’t look like the kind of guy you want to offend and you have very important business to attend to. Still…

“Just do it.”

You start spinning. After a few half-hearted whirls you look at him. The only change to his face is a raised eyebrow. He’s not impressed. So you go again. A little faster. His expression is unchanged. You pick it up. Strangely, it’s starting to be a little fun. A few memories come unbidden and a smile begins to form. You find you don’t really want to stop. You go faster and faster and faster and then…

You fall down laughing and smiling in the middle of the airport. You try to get up but you fall right back down. The room is a whirling mass of color and sound. You close your eyes and once you open them again find the officer. He’s smiling widely and offers you his hand to help you up.

“Welcome to Today,” he says. “I hope you enjoy your visit.”

Today’s challenge: Spin… just like you did when you were a little kid. Spin until you fall down. Watch the world rush around you in blurred lines until you can get up again without falling down. Spin…

Oh, and welcome to Today!

I enjoy life and have been blessed with many different experiences. An eye for the underlying truths that surround me accompanies a growing faith in Christ and God that informs my world and reveals small miracles and beauty surrounding me every day. This is the major reason I felt led to start Dance of 2 Companies - a dance studio where I can share all the little amazing things God's taught me through life as a dancer - about myself, about others, about marriage... and most importantly, about Him.
