a break to work…

For the past few days I’ve been excited about a new prospect… for work. As I dream about having a garden, I find myself captivated by images of swinging a pick and hefting a shovel to plow up the dirt and prepare the ground. It’s a far cry from renting a tiller from the Home Depot.

It’s something I think I’m only beginning to uncover. In part, it’s the joy of labor. The joy of feeling my muscles strain and stretch with every strike. The joy of breaking a sweat. The joy of time spent in pure physical labor. In a way, it’s taking a break to work. I’ve always enjoyed physical labor. It has purpose, and at the end of the day I can look at it and see what’s been accomplished.

It has me thinking about work today. We’re always in such a hurry to finish our work and too seldom desiring to enjoy it and to take our time enjoying it. Life wasn’t always so disconnected from work. I’m hoping to find that joy of work again in the process of breaking with the norm and making something. It’s a slow down. It’s the choice of a pick and shovel over an automated machine. And it sounds really good to me.

Rediscover this in your life and take a break… to work.

About Kirk

I enjoy life and have been blessed with many different experiences. An eye for the underlying truths that surround me accompanies a growing faith in Christ and God that informs my world and reveals small miracles and beauty surrounding me every day. This is the major reason I felt led to start Dance of 2 Companies - a dance studio where I can share all the little amazing things God's taught me through life as a dancer - about myself, about others, about marriage... and most importantly, about Him.
