daily play: eavesdrop

It’s been quite some time since I’ve issued a challenge. Today feels like a good day for it. So, here we go.

Today’s challenge is… eavesdrop. Go to a public place and listen to a conversation or two or three. Think about the different nuances in each persons mannerisms, phrasing, tone, use of words. And if you are lucky enough to stumble upon one side of a phone conversation, listen in while supplying the other side of the dialogue with your imagination.

Extra credit: Write down a portion of the conversation, save it for tomorrow or the next day, and then treat it like a story. Imagine what a person who watched, but could not hear, the conversation would see. Describe it. Then merge that into the dialogue to create a scene complete with dialogue and description. (Owe this idea to Michael Stackpole.)

Have fun!

About Kirk

I enjoy life and have been blessed with many different experiences. An eye for the underlying truths that surround me accompanies a growing faith in Christ and God that informs my world and reveals small miracles and beauty surrounding me every day. This is the major reason I felt led to start Dance of 2 Companies - a dance studio where I can share all the little amazing things God's taught me through life as a dancer - about myself, about others, about marriage... and most importantly, about Him.
