“There are countless ways of achieving greatness, but any road to achieving one’s maximum potential must be built on a bedrock of respect for the individual, a commitment to excellence, and a rejection of mediocrity.” – Buck Rodgers

I love this quote. No matter what we set out to do, these three things are incredibly important. They are, as he says, a bedrock. They are a foundation. Spectacular feats of architecture cannot be built on a faulty foundation. Time will always bring them crashing down because they cannot support the weight of their own existence. It is good for us to remember this as we press forward in all of our endeavors, and I believe this list gives us a very good starting point. Care for others, care for our work and a commitment to the best we can produce is a list of values that will lead to an ever increasing respect toward you from others for integrity, for character and for the quality of what you produce.

I think it wise to periodically assess how we’re doing in these areas. The best part of an assessment like this is that its evaluation of a process. It’s rarely a yes or no equation. If these things are becoming more prevalent in your life, even if you’re not perfect, you are heading in the right direction. The direction of greatness!

If you were to grade yourself in these areas, how would you do? As an artist? As an employee? As a husband or wife? As a friend?

About Kirk

I enjoy life and have been blessed with many different experiences. An eye for the underlying truths that surround me accompanies a growing faith in Christ and God that informs my world and reveals small miracles and beauty surrounding me every day. This is the major reason I felt led to start Dance of 2 Companies - a dance studio where I can share all the little amazing things God's taught me through life as a dancer - about myself, about others, about marriage... and most importantly, about Him.
